Twyford C1 - 1st year
at Surrey University
The Court Was Twyford, the
building was C, the floor was floor 1
The weekend that I first arrived at University was also the
weekend of the Scout Nationals Sailing Regatta in Cornwall.
So the Friday night and Saturday night I'd been sleeping in
a tent in a force 7 gale. I drove up to Guildford on the Sunday
with my mum, and arrived about 3pm. I should have moved in
between 10-12am, but it was ok in the end.
The first person I met was Sarah Butterworth. I was so excited
about being at University, and the prospect of meeting all
these new people, that I actually left my mum doing the unpacking,
and went with Sarah to meet all the people on my floor. The
rooms were as follows:

At Surrey University each floor has a senior
resident. On our floor, Andy and Ben shared this responsibility.
On the first night they took us all out to the Union. That
is also where I met the nurses Natalie and Gemma, and started
our friendship with the following chatup line:
"We've got something in common...
we both arrived here today!"
Advise to anyone reading this starting University
- make as many friends on the first night as you can, then
keep talking to them all the time through University. The
people you meet on the first night will very often be the
ones that you will always remember.
There are so many memories about the first
year at University in Twyford, but I shall not put them
all down here. I hope to eventually get some clips from
the video I made of the last few days on here.
